Hi, my name is Dekel Peretz.
Born in Israel, raised in NYC, and a Berliner since 2002, I have experienced first hand the city's rapid change from a shady former capital of Nazis and communists to a hustling and bustling European capital and center of art, business and science. Let me share this experience with you.
I have 8 years of guiding experience in Berlin, Potsdam, Dresden and other German cities.
During my history studies at the prestigous Humboldt University of Berlin I specialized in the story of this city in past and presence and its commemoration culture.
Those interested in Jewish past and presence should know that I have also taught university classes on German-Jewish history and participated in radio broadcasted podium discussions on contemporary Jewish life in Berlin. Through my intensive personal involvment in the Jewish community of Berlin I can also provide you with many insider insights.
I am not very keen on routine. There is so much in Berlin to see and discover that every tour can and should be unique. Please let me know what interests you most and how much time you would like to spend touring and I will prepare a custom tour just for you. The tour themes offered are just for general orientation and can be woven in together into one tour with ample time.
I have experience guiding many different types of groups: Singles, couples, families, extended family get-togethers, small groups, large groups, groups with special needs, rock stars, etc.
Most tours are walking tours with a bit of public transport thrown in where needed. However, we can also get on bikes and get around like the Berliners do or hire a personal driver and chauffer to upgrade on comfort. The choice is yours.
