There is no place in the world that the cold war was more present than Berlin. It was here that both sides tried to prove their superiority through all means except on all out war. Palaces for the workers, spacy architecture, gold plated buildings and coca-cola commercials still remind us of the fierce competition between two economic systems vying for complete domination of the utopian imagination.
Monuments glorifying the liberation of Berlin by the Red Army are scattered throught the city, while traces of the wall and memorials to crushed uprisings remind us of the military dictatorship. Some parts of the wall provide fun and colorful excursions. Others still bear witness to the horror of living in plain site of some 12,000 guards. And that is not counting the secret eyes of the Stasi.
